cov.kids is a community events listing for Coventry and the surrounding area. It pulls together gigs, markets, comedy nights, theatre, sport, film screenings, and more from a range of local sources, all in one place.

How it works

Events are pulled in from Reddit (/r/coventry), Eventbrite, venue websites, email newsletters, and CVFolk, an amazing resource if you're into folk music in the area. A bit of AI and other magic helps extract the details (name, date, venue, category) from all that. Everything is then reviewed before it appears on the site.

Inspiration

Heavily inspired by u/HadjiChippoSafri on /r/coventry, who has been posting weekly "What's On" threads for the community for years.

Area filters

By default the site shows events in Coventry itself. Use the + Warwickshire and + Birmingham pills to broaden the search to nearby towns (Leamington, Warwick, Bedworth, Kenilworth, Nuneaton, Rugby, Stratford...) or to Birmingham.

For Birmingham, I'm focusing on arts and theatre events that are realistically trainable from Coventry: things worth the 20-minute journey. It's not meant to be a full Birmingham listings site, just a nudge towards the stuff that's easy to get to.

Calendar subscriptions

You can subscribe to cov.kids in your calendar app (Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, etc.) and events will appear automatically as they're added.

In most apps, look for "Subscribe to calendar" or "Add calendar from URL" and paste the link above. Events in the next six months with a confirmed date will appear.

Dates and times

Events come in from lots of different places, and everyone writes dates and times differently — "Sat 5th April", "April 5", "5/4", "7.30pm", "19:30". Rather than trying to reformat everything into one style (and risk getting it wrong), the site shows dates and times roughly as they appeared in the original listing. So don't be surprised if they look a bit inconsistent. They're accurate, just not uniform. I'm working on tidying this up.

Venue descriptions

Yes, they are AI-generated garbage — I'm getting round to it. If you run a venue and would like something better, drop me a line.

Run a venue or event?

If you have a mailing list, add [email protected] and your events should start appearing automatically. No mailing list? Just email the details directly to [email protected] and I'll get them on.

I can also pull events directly from a Facebook page. Just let me know your Facebook address and I'll set it up.

If you post events on Facebook, invite the cov.kids Facebook account to your events and they'll be picked up for approval.
